Mesa Overland is building something remarkable besides their high-end composite campers — a growing community of skilled workers, local partnerships, and outdoor enthusiasts drawn together by a shared love of adventure. Founded by Blayne Ferrell, Mesa Overland has grown from a one-person operation in a small shop near Hotchkiss to a thriving business now located in a larger Delta facility. Known for producing some of the most durable and efficient campers on the market, Mesa Overland is not only making waves in off-road camping industry but also in the local economy.
From a Hotchkiss Backyard Shop to Local Employer

What began as a personal project soon evolved into a fast-growing enterprise. Blayne started out on his property with just one employee — himself. “Now we’re at seven, and we’re in the process of hiring two more,” says Ferrell. Mesa Overland’s expansion was accelerated thanks to One Delta County, an organization dedicated to helping local businesses thrive.
Ferrell credits Greg Pope and the team at One Delta County with helping him find the perfect site — a former van conversion facility on Highway 348, once occupied by Off Grid Adventure. “Without One Delta County, it could have taken years to find a space like this,” Ferrell explained. Because they are in the same industry, they were able to hit the ground running, making use of their equipment, infrastructure, and even some of their talented former staff.
A Camper for All Seasons
Mesa Overland’s rigs are more than just eye-catching. They are engineered with care and expertise by a team of master mechanics, designers, and outdoor enthusiasts — many of whom have spent extended time living on the road. Their firsthand experience translates into thoughtful design, whether it’s in the heated floors, the endless hot water, or the careful insulation that makes Mesa Overland campers some of the most comfortable rigs on the market.
Ferrell says one of the biggest selling points is the lightweight composite material used in their construction. “Because of the composite compound, our customers end up with payload to spare,” he explains. The result is a camper that’s tough, comfortable, and highly efficient — a rare combination in the overlanding world.
Custom Builds, Up-Close and Personal Service
Mesa Overland offers a wide range of services, from fully custom builds to spec composite campers and consulting on specialized fabrication projects. Whether someone dreams of a luxurious flatbed camper or a simple slide-in design, Ferrell and his team work closely with customers to bring their vision to life.
The company emphasizes its commitment to accessibility, highlighting its efforts to stay responsive through text, email, or phone and to create a personal, supportive experience for each customer. That emphasis on connection also extends to the local community, with promotions and outreach geared toward Delta County residents.
Hiring Local, Growing Local

As demand for their campers continues to rise, Mesa Overland is ramping up production, aiming to increase from 16–18 units per year to as many as 50–100. With that growth comes opportunity. Mesa Overland’s employees hail from across Delta County and even Montrose, and Ferrell plans to continue hiring locally as production scales up. He notes that the company is proud to create new job opportunities for skilled laborers in the area.
This community focus aligns with Blayne’s love of the region. A seasoned traveler who has lived on Colorado’s Front Range and explored the country, he is now firmly rooted in Delta County. As an avid climber and mountain biker, he’s grateful to be building his business in a place where the outdoors is part of daily life — without the crowds of more tourist-heavy regions. Blayne is happy to call Delta County home and is convinced there’s no place like it.
The Future of Mesa Overland
Mesa Overland’s goal isn’t just to be a regional success story. Ferrell and his business partner aim to position the company as the country’s largest supplier of high-end composite campers, aiming to set new industry standards for durability, insulation, and lightweight performance. But even as the company grows, its heart will remain local.
Ferrell is quick to give credit to the people and organizations that helped get Mesa Overland off the ground. “Greg Pope and One Delta County were instrumental,” he says. “We live in a community where organizations that support small businesses on a personal level really are unique.”
For Mesa Overland, the road ahead is paved with both ambition and gratitude. It’s a company born from a love of the outdoors, sustained by craftsmanship and innovation, and powered by a local workforce as passionate about the journey as they are about the destination.
As Mesa Overland expands, it will offer state-of-the-art campers and continue to promote a model of how businesses can grow alongside the communities they call home.
